Yes Andrew, I know what the figure of eight standard looks like and of
course I have some bits of gear with that sort of plug-socket
arrangement too. Cassette recorders commonly used this sort of lead,
where earthing wasn't an issue, as it isn't with the Classic.
Maybe the makers of the Victor Classic went over to using this sort of
lead later on, and my Classic is the one with rotry knobs, not pairs
of buttons for volume toneand speed adjustment.
Common sense might say either type of plug-socket would do for this
sort of equipment , but then again, electrical regulations are nothing
if they're not obscure.

Hi Ray, The figure 8 lead is like a piece of flex cable, like the
type
used on speakers that is what we call a figure 8 as you look at it
from the
end 8 is the shape it is.
