Two resources worth looking at. First is a blind wiki with a list of
applications that blind iPhone users have found to be accessible. The second is
a site launched at the weekend with guides to using apps. The idea as that
people contribute their own guides and reviews of apps.

Hi Jackie
Only reason I asked is that I have an ipod touch and never come across any
dedicated accessible applications might be worth a separate question Cheers Sam

Hi Sam
I don't have one, but am only going by what is being written and spoken about
by visually impaired users. There are accessible applications for obtaining
train times, weather reports and detection of colours. I understand some have
had joy with OCR as well. I really can't comment on their accessibility
though. It is an interesting and evolving time for mobile technology.

Hi Damon
I think it is why I would prefer an iTouch as opposed to an iPhone for the very
reasons you outline. I have Talks and Nokia handsets, so there would be no
real purpose in my migrating to an iPhone and giving myself a lot of grief for
nothing. The iTouch, however, with its extra storage capacity and usable
applications, does interest me at a later date.

Jackie Cairns

What I'd add is that practical use while on the go is difficult.
The iPhone is more of a two handed experience and somehow finding and dialing
numbers on a busy street is difficult on a touch screen phone of that shape and
with that functionality.
In conclusion, iPhones work best at home.
