Hello,

There is a free program called Quickmix, which enables the user to save volume control settings in a file. By setting up a shortcut key to run Quickmix, it is possible to restore volume control settings at any time. Alternatively, the file can be loaded as part of the startup procedure.

I cannot remember if I got Quickmix from www.whitestick.co.uk or www.jfwlite.com.

Did the sound disappear while your friend was in the middle of running a program, or on the internet, etc., in which case it might be some form of crash, or did it disappear at startup, in which case Windows might have been loaded in 'Safe' mode, or whatever the XP equivalent might be.

Hope this helps.

Christopher

Hi list.

A friend, the same one who had to ddowngrade to Windows XP home
to use JAWS standard and who needed help with BT interenet, has
had another problem, and not just once. The speech and sound
from his computer have just vanished!

He's totaly blind so its very hard to tell him what he might do
to get the PC up and talking again. So, folks, how do you get
sound back when it vanishes?

No, the speakers are connected and OK, the volume is turned up.
There's just no sound. I think it is the mixer volume controls
being altered, most likely a mute setting. So, is there a
command, or some sort of script file that stands a good chance of
recovering lost sound? Such a thing ought to be possible to
help, at least in some cases. Any thoughts?
