Hi Steve

I've had my Audigy about 18 months now and no problems with drivers. Never had any crackle and the bit rate stays constant at what it's set at. I don't use speech so that isn't in the equation. I said the sound from my card suits me and that is the best anyone can say. We all hear totally differently from each other so what suits one may not come close to another. When your hearing is as close to the edge as mine is you're not an enthusiast it's a survivor necessity. In my opinion the CL card I have is the best of a wide range that were tried out.

Hi Roger,

I would have to disagree with you about the quality of Creative cards,
purely because they completely abandon their drivers, when the card is
discontinued. That means that that wonderful sound card has a shelf life of
probably six months or so, until they bring out a new one. Then you'll
probably find that it won't work on Vista <Smile>. I hate creative now,
crackly cards, sample rates dropping at the drop of a hat, and generally
pretty poor under XP. I have one, and I am looking for a different card.
The Emu sounds a good bet, but I want to see some reviews first. If you
want to just have speech rattling from your card, then creative is a good
bet, but if you are a sound enthusiast, forget it!

All the best

Hi Carol

Nothing to do with EMU as I've never heard of them but I've just been
looking on the Ebuyer site for another reason and note they're doing a
special offer on the Creative Labs. Audigy 2 EZ Platinum with the front
panel to place in a tower bay. For an incredible £57 including VAT. To my
mind the top of the range sound card with fantastic sound quality now at an
unbelievable price.

Hi all,

Although I realise there are perhaps more appropriate lists for such
questions, I have already tried and have had very little response. Seeing

a reference in another post to EMU sound cards on this list, I started to
troll the Internet but, as always, got rather tired . . .. Hope you'll
therefore be able to respond to this one.

I'm looking for a better quality (not necessarily top range) sound card,
preferably that has ins and outs on the front of the computer. In
addition, I need something operating completely independently from the
AC97 so as to avoid any possible hitches in having two sound cards running

on this computer.

Any suggestions most welcome, then I can limit the amount of searching
through reviews that I need to do.

Thanks.
