I am focused only connecting it using ALSA. If you are curious see ifone
of your linux repos has VMPK. Launch it, File > Midi Controllers >
(drop-down) under ALSA > input Midi Controllers.
This is proper designed GUI and why GUIs exist. This is how most software
GUI versions on linux work and are designed. GUI are supposed to provide
easy functionality.
For example, I connected the midi controller, boot VMPK, and yes of course
under ALSA, the app is going to see the controller and allow me to select.
Simple, Easy, done, worked. #1 I explained this off-the-bat.
Now in Yoshimi, you can go into Settings > ALSA (this is the same section
essentail as VMPK) and you'll see a text field to specify midi controller.
It's value is default. There is no drop-down/recognition on the GUI form,
which honestly, there simply should be.
So The other attacking, condescending comments toward me had NOTHING to
with lack of my own understanding, it was there lack of simple
comprehension of *NIX systems or built in reference to proper GUI and
utility.
Therefor my focus is geared towards only finding out if I CAN? specify a
value with the actual YOSHIMI SETTINGS to specify the midi controller,
similar to VMPK and which is status quo 1001% and expected give the
Settings > ALSA tab and form field.
Now I have to cease responseand just figure it out and outline the best
methods to accomplish the task of connecting a simple midi controller,
hopefully trying to not use and "external alsa gui" package.

rude manner. You can read my thread opened and clearly see the scenario I
outlined, the issues, and my intent.
I am simply going to figure it out now. Hopefully, I can simply utilize
and point Yoshimi to use the midi controller via Settings > ALSA > Also
Midi Source setting. Obviously.
If I have to use an external package GUI as mentioned by Diego, then I
guess that may be the only option.
In any case I will reply with a simple instruction of how others can
simply and painlessly do it with exact instruction.
