Great links. Parallels may be a good choice for run-of-the-mill situations.
Parallels relies on a working computer for transfer. This means that an
old image is not enough, and you will need a working XP computer with
correct communications capability. vmWare might do the trick by
converting the image. Still, if the XP OS is OEM, you will need a new
license, too.

Obviously, you need to restore the existing image to a real hard disk. I hope this helps.
