Angela, Thank You for your Observations. Over my career at CMP,
I often worked with Line Crews from Portland and from other Company
Divisions, usually during Storm Restoration. And even with Crews from Nova
Scotia and New Brunswick.
A Lineworker, even with all the Advance Safety measures, laid out forward
and aft of a work site, Road Guards, local PD's, when they are up in the
Air, working, they are at the mercy of Drivers who may get distracted, not
paying attention or as happened in York County a few years ago, on Rte
202, a driver was fleeing from law enforcement and came very close to
causing a disaster when he came up on a Crew up in the Air.

A Jane Jacobs quote comes to mind, and I agree given the highways
splitting towns, making roads unsafe for walking - an activity that gets
people out and connected, not isolated:
"Not T.V. or illegal drugs but the automobile has been the chief destroyer
of American communities."
