There was a calling yellow-throated warbler seen from the lookout parking lot in pine trees down the hill toward Long Valley Road about 8 am today. Was first heard just as I started down the road. Parked in the lot and got good looks as it fed. Really a good time of year since the trees aren't leafed out yet. When I drove down toward the boat landing, there were yellow-throated warblers calling from three different spots from the top of the hill to where you actually turn to go down to the boat landing. I don't exactly know how many are there but find it hard to believe it is all from one bird. Park was pretty quiet otherwise. Only yellowrumps, with brown thrashers, towhees, field sparrows all very vocal. First time in 19 spring trips saw tundra swans flying upriver. Black rat snakes sunning themselves, dutchman's britches in bloom. Good day without many birds. Walked both trails at Spring Green Preserve (beautiful day). Lark sparrow but no grasshopper. No sign of the mockingbird. First palm warbler of the year.
