A group of 16 birders originating from Milwaukee's Urban Ecology Center searched western Crawford and Grant counties and eastern Clayton County, Iowa this weekend. Fog and rain interfered somewhat with our birdfinding. Icy side roads going back up into coulees were the number one obstacle, however. After heavy rain washed a top layer of sand and gravel off of the ice, some roads became impassable. We suggest a highly cautionary approach to those roads - some should definitely not be attempted right now without tire chains. Gray Partridges were found in Grant County near the intersection of Hwys 18, 133 and 35, north of Patch Grove.
