Tom Truex, Oshkosh Bird Club member, and Sylvia Barbarich found a small female duck on Sunday in the water on the south side of James Island in Little Lake Butte des Morts. This island is where the north branch of the Fox River goes from Lake Winnebago into Little Lake Butte des Morts - not sure, but this is probably within the city of Menasha. The duck was small, very dark, had white "fuzzy" patch on the side of the face, and a petite bill. It did not show any white in the wings when it flew. Tom and Sylvia would like for others to see and confirm their identification if possible. You can reach this area by turning left (west) as you go north on Commercial St. just before the bridge across the north branch of the Fox. (Just before main street Menasha). I'm not sure of the name of the street you turn on, but there is a traffic light there - it may be James River Street (named for the factory on either side of it). Follow that to its end and turn right (north) and check each street that dead ends into the river. You'll be just south of the island. All this is in Winnebago County. Good luck, Bettie Harriman Oshkosh #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
