Stayed within a 5 mile radius of home birding a couple areas. The probable Pacific loon on Pike could not be relocated. Indeed, only one common was at Pike Lake. I've seen at most 5 at one time this season which is really low. Duck numbers still high but grebes are about half of maximum. 2 bonies and a single Forster's tern were seen. Walked a bit of the slushy boardwalk. Only thing of note were good numbers of hermit thrush. Went by some seeps and found more hermits and many robins and towhees. A blob on the nearby lawn turned out to be a woodcock looking really forlorn. South of Pike in a tiny flooded area of a cornfield were 41 ducks- 4 mallards and 37 wood ducks! By far the largest group I've ever seen. North to Wildlife Road first stopping at ponds. Decent duck diversity with both teal, wigeon, hoodies, bufflehead, and mallards. 3 GB herons as well. Went north on the road and parked. Walked the .5 mile remainder. Nothing spectacular. Had 5 soaring turkey vultures, a pair of red-tails, and a bonus broad-wing. Also had several groups of longspurs heading north. Here too were good numbers of hermits.
