Are you interested in engaging people through bird focused citizen
science? Learn about the innovative programs taking place throughout
the state and country as the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative
(WBCI) explores Citizen Science as one of the tracks at the Annual
Meeting. Other conference tracks include: Diversity/Underserved
Populations and Festivals. Speakers will be joining us from across the
nation to share passion for bird education, including Ileana
Betancourt from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Ileana will present on
“Engaging Kids and Communities through Citizen Science.”

Ileana Betancourt, an educator at The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, has
reached thousands of formal and informal educators across the country
with citizen science. Through the Lab’s BirdSleuth K-12 education
program, Ileana develops curricula, runs webinars and workshops,
reaches out to audiences with social media, and most of all, promotes
citizen science as a way to engage kids and communities in science and
scientific inquiry locally wherever they are.
