I checked out Schliesman Rd north of Rio this morning. Nice "birdy" area. Initially I found one Wilson's Snipe feeding in the creek. Working north to where Schliesman turns north off Waters Rd, there were several Purple Finches, Cedar Waxwings and Robins, plus other standard winter fare. When I returned to the snipe spot, three were now feeding in the stream. Nice to see. The Poynette feeder on the west side had 2 Tufted Titmice coming, along with standard birds. The Arena boat landing was very quiet. Several Bald Eagles were along the mostly frozen river, but a nice surprise was an adult Golden Eagle circling to the north over the hills. No other birds were seen along the drive out and back! One lone Bluebird was found along Pine Rd to the west of the landing. And it was cold, especially with that strong southwest wind.
