Hello, This upcoming Saturday, April 12, 2014 is the annual WSO Mead State Wildlife Area birding field trip. I hope many of you can attend this years field trip, especially since we had to cancel it last year due to no migrants and frozen marshes. The situation this spring is much better, and the marshes are starting to open more and more each day. Many migrants are already moving into the area, and with the warm weather forecasted for this next week, next Saturday's field trip looks like it'll be taking place. As for sightings, today, the Tundra Swans were really moving through in good numbers, and at least seven Greater White-fronted Geese were sighted (an unusual bird, but not rare for this neck of the woods). Rusty Blackbirds, Lapland Longspurs, and more have already been sighted, and new migrants are arriving each day. So plan on meeting myself, along with my co-leader Gerry Janz, as we explore the George W. Mead State Wildlife Area.
