Checked the Wildlife Road ponds NE of St. Lawrence (Washington County) for whatever might have shown up. These ponds are managed for water levels, but personally I think they are kept too deep, as the waterfowl usually present tend to be divers. However, the 2 trumpeter swans I observed had no problems kicking up vegetation and getting beaks to the bottom. Never figured on this species here! First off, it is the first swan species I've ever seen at these ponds, and Washington County doesn't really scream trumpeter swans. Of course it was new for my county list. 20 hooded mergansers were nice, along with both teal, woodies, buffleheads, and redhead. Most species were in even numbers- yes, all paired up. Pike Lake is starting to build with onset of open water. Saw FOY osprey, with 1 loon (that number will build to ~16) and usual divers.
