Join the Milwaukee Audubon Society at the 31st Annual Natural Landscapes
Conference on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Concordia University's Center for
Environmental Stewardship in Mequon.

For complete details, directions and on-site registration information, go
to: http://www.milwaukeeaudubon.org/Conference/2011/Index.htm

The conference will feature three tracks: Avian Connections, Natural
Landscapes, and Cultural Landscape Heritage. Special topics of interest to
birders include:
+ "Looking to the Future: Migratory Bird Banding along the Milwaukee River
as an Education and Outreach Tool" --
Timothy Vargo, Manager of Research and Citizen Science, Urban Ecology Center
+ "Wisconsin's Important Bird Areas (IBAs): Horicon to the Lake Michigan
Migratory Flyway" --
Yoyi Steele, IBA Coordinator, Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative (WBCI)
and WDNR
+ "Connecting Migrating Birds with the Landscape" -- Noel J. Cutright,
Founder, Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory

The keynote speaker is Kathleen Schmitt Kline, author of the book "People of
the Sturgeon - Wisconsin's Love Affair with an Ancient Fish". Kline is a
former science writer at the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute,
which supports research, education, and outreach dedicated to the
stewardship and sustainable use of the nation's Great Lakes and ocean
resources. Kline will be selling her book and signing copies at
the conference.

The new environmental center and Concordia University's distinctive location
on Lake Michigan afford an unprecedented location for this conference and
its theme, "Tracing Water Trails. Water Habitat, People and Culture."

Milwaukee Audubon will also be presenting the Lorrie Otto Memorial
Recognition Award for excellence in preserving native
 fish and wildlife habitat.
