Thursday afternoon (Feb. 1) we drove to Port Washington harbor to see the
zillions of ducks, geese, and gulls gathered there:
a couple thousand Canada Geese & Herring Gulls,
but couldn't find any Ring-billed Gulls;
hundreds of Common Mergansers;
Mallards & Common Goldeneyes & Red-breasted Mergansers & Greater Scaup &
Lesser Scaup & Redheads & Black Ducks;
Glaucous & Iceland & Great Black-backed Gulls;
one Red-throated Loon;
and even a gorgeous Mute Swan.
There was occasional steam floating over the water, so we hesitated
identifying any of the 8 dark-backed Gulls as Slaty-backed; but it's
probably there somewhere!!!!
Due to the COLD and the strong west wind, we had trouble with our eyes
watering constantly and the "tears" freezing on our cheeks!!!! : / At
least the sun was shining! : ) And we had warm jackets & hats & gloves &
pants & sweaters & socks & boots & scarves & ... : )
Enjoy your day and the birds no matter the weather!!!!!! : )
