The every Wed morning Nelson Institute Capstone 600 Birding Class braved 7:30am
cold at Picnic Point for their first outing of the semester. After a slow start
with few birds active we were rewarded with a small but interesting variety of
birds. The highlight was a very cooperative Tufted Titmouse spotted by Chuck
Henrikson and instructor Anke Keuser that posed and sang lustily, joined by a
commensal flock of Black-capped Chickadees, Dark-eyed Juncos, White-breasted
Nuthatch, Cardinals and Bluejays. Two Coopers Hawks flew what appeared to be
pair bonding maneuvers nearby over the Biocore Prairie.
