Pelicans on Pelican Lake - Really! I stopped at the town boat landing on the W side in the lashing rain, just in case I might see something... At first I thought it was a flock of geese (all I saw in the gray sky and dull light was the wing tips). Then they banked and what little brightness there was hit them differently and I could see black wingtips white wings and bodies. They did some precision just over the waves flight, landed for a bit and then proceeded to formation flying over the lake. This was between 2:45 and 3:15 today (Saturday). Pelican is supposed to be a good fishing lake - they must be in on the secret. This is the first time I've seen Pelicans on Pelican Lake and had always wondered how it could have gotten that name. Maybe now I know? Are these likely Green Bay birds out for an afternoon of fishing? Or Pelicans migrating somewhere? Also seen - one Bonaparte's Gull, Osprey, Eagle, Loons, Goldeneye, Can.geese. FOY Pine Warbler in our Rhinelander yard yesterday. Just now heard FOY E.Meadowlark here in Polar.
