I ran my Red Shouldered Hawk Survey route this morning. It's on back roads in Menominee County, done with tribal permission. Because of our late winter snows, the roads weren't really possible until this week. Still kind of muddy and rutted, but my little car did fine. It's hard to believe I started out the morning with my tires crunching ice and snow and ended the afternoon in a t-shirt. Ahh spring in Wisconsin! I heard 5 Red Shouldered Hawks - this is excellent habitat. Other birds of interest: 6 Yellow-rumped Warblers - flycatching above a stream FOY for me Hermit Thrushes (many) Golden crowned kinglets Juncos Phoebe Sandhill Cranes winter wrens singing!! :-) Brown Creepers singing Pine Siskins Flicker Ravens all the Woodpeckers, especially Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers - I've kidded Ryan Brady that this is a Sapsucker survey route. I counted "only" 38 on the 12 stop route this time. Over 50 last year. second survey may have more. On the way home in Langlade co FOY Tree Swallows. Nancy Richmond Polar - Langlade Co. #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
