I saw three very beautiful BRIGHT white large birds with black on the ends of their wings flying in formation or unison last week over the Fox River by the Appleton Locks. They were quite high up and I did not have my binoculars to get good looks but they were definitely larger than the gulls in the area. My waterfowl knowledge is slight...some kind of goose? pelicans? Less than an hour ago I noticed 12 of these flying over the river and again the brightness of the white is remarkable....the wings long and rather thin, the necks long, the black on the ends of each wing quite wide. The 12 were in a flock but not in any particular shape (like geese are in a V). Then I noticed two more together following the larger group. Any one offer an ID for me? I could not see the feet nor hear any sounds made by them but the grackles and gulls were making quite a lot of sounds at ground level. Thanks!!
