I spent the morning walking Heckrodt Preserve and then checked Lakes Winnebago & Little Butte des Morts in Neenah/Menasha. Heckrodt was very good with a real nice migrant wave in a part of the preserve. It included 10 Golden-cr. and 2 Ruby-cr. Kinglets, 3 Winter Wrens, 10 Yellow-rumped Warblers and (a surprise) a Pine Warbler, 3 Brown Creepers, 1 Hermit Thrush, 1 Fox Sparrow, 15+ Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers and a fly by Common Loon, plus standard birds. Lake Winnebago had more open water but is still mainly ice. There was a nice variety of ducks, including an estimated 7000 Lesser Scaup, and numerous White Pelicans and Dc Cormorants, plus 2 Bonaparte's Gulls among the Ring-billeds and Herrings. Also a Common Loon was off Jefferson Park. Little Lake Butte des Morts is open. Besides the numerous pelicans and cormorants, there were 4 Horned Grebes on it. Oddly no loons. This afternoon I checked the Shiocton area between Black Creek and New London. Best spots were Mack WA, with 10+ Fox Sparrows, Van Patten Rd (now has open water) with 16 duck species and 1 male Yellow-headed Blackbird. The other good spot was along Cty W south of Hwy 76 where 10 Gr. White-fronted Geese and 30 Tundra Swans were still present, along with various ducks and of course numerous Canada Geese. 74 species combined.
