Went out this morning intending on checking some wet areas west of Hustisford. Lake Sinissippi didn't have a thing from my vantage points- fog didn't help either. I was excited to get over to Eagle Road and see tons of waterfowl. Completely dried up! I believe some ditching has been done and now only a very small portion holds water and only geese and cranes. North on County DJ proved to be the right course of action. North of Shady Lane was a wet field that had 321 birds feeding- that number is pretty darn close btw. Of those, 253 were gw teal! Also in attendance were 26 mallards, 3 each of bw teal and gadwall. 4 ring-necks and 32 Canada geese rounded out the list. A few miles north of here, still on DJ, was a slop pit that had some geese and mallards, along with 9 greater and 2 lesser yellowlegs- both FOYs. From here it was on to Horicon. Went up to Palmatory for martins but they were a no show. Dike Road was next. On the corner of TW and Dike were 3 Bonaparte's gulls (FOY). Went up to find the gate still closed. Northern Road was the substitute and it had squat. Went up to the Auto Loop and had 2 trumpeter swans on the last large body of water on south side of 49. Walked the boardwalk and had FOY barn swallow. Coming home east on 49, near the pumphouse, I had 3 Forster's terns, by far the earliest I've seen them. Betty, did you see them after I passed you?!
