On August 18, I saw the following birds in Dane County:

-Forester's Tern (non-breeding adult on Lake Mendota in Madison, near the
Pheasant Branch tributary)

-Red-breasted Nuthatch (2 birds in boyfriend's yard in Madison)

-Red-headed Woodpecker (1 juvenile on Ice Age trail west of Crossplains)

A birding friend of mine was at Buena Vista Grassland (Portage County)
recently--didn't specify which date--and observed 3 Short-eared Owls. One
appeared to be a young-of-the-year bird, so I'm guessing that they nested here.

Good birding!
