Spent a few hours today at Buena Vista Grasslands (just south of steven's point off I 39) and thanks to some tips from Rob Pendergast and Dan Jackson I got two lifers. I got the snow buntings right away (about 9 am). over 150 in a single flock. They were on taft road halfway between W and lake. 3 hours later, just as I was leaving the area, going south on W towards the I, just before the cell phone tower I catch a few spots on the white snow off to my right( west of W). I should have just flown right by them, after all they were a long ways off. 40 ! I pulled off and stayed about 45 minutes. The photos won't be great but at least you can tell they are GPCs ! I'm surprised they would be right out in the open since I did see several hawks. In fact 2 or 3 right in that general area. After that I checked out steven's point. Drove around checking lots of trees and feeders but only found a few ducks and pigeons by the dam. All in all I was very happy with the two lifers, and such big flocks and I got pictures.
