A Boreal Owl is being seen at a private residence near Harshaw in Oneida County. It showed up literally on the homeowner's platform feeder on Sunday and was seen again on Monday. Some pics of the bird by the homeowner, Peter Rasmussen, are below. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32706210@N05/8488770835/in/pool-wisconsinebird http://www.flickr.com/photos/32706210@N05/8489868610/in/pool-wisconsinebird/ If the bird continues to be seen, Peter is welcoming visitors STARTING FRIDAY and through the weekend. Birders will be required to call him first and stay inside the house to avoid disturbance to the bird. He's going to keep us posted on whether he sees the bird over the next couple days. To avoid him getting a bunch of unnecessary calls, I think I'll hold off on posting his contact info until we know the bird is still being seen. If so, I'll post by tomorrow night or early Thursday. Peter has witnessed two successful prey captures in his backyard so perhaps there's enough food to keep this bird here for a while. Peter also mentioned he was a new member of the North Lakeland Discovery Center Bird Club in Manitowish Waters. I'm pretty sure they like him already!
