Since I've never seen a short-eared owl, I thought I'd take advantage of the recent sightings of short eard owls at Bong Recreation area. With family in tow, we searched and searched. We spotted a couple harriers and red-tailed hawks, but not much else. As evening approached, we spotted an a single owl near the entrance end of the park in the open area to the west. It landed on the last post of a fence than ran north/south. It soon took flight, eventually landing in a tree just east of a parking lot used for snowmobilers (I think). I managed to get a couple photos, none of which are going to win any Nat'l Geo competitions, but good documentation photos nonetheless. Light was pretty dim. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22836210@N03/8474361460/in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/22836210@N03/8473273293/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/22836210@N03/8473273331/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/22836210@N03/8473273405/in/photostream/ Thanks, Tom Wright Wales #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
