This afternoon as I was doing yard work for a couple of hours, I was
listening to the continuing song of the Hooded Warbler across the road. He's
been singing steadily this past week, mostly an alternate song. At one
point, an Indigo Bunting started to sing and the two sang one after the
other for a good half hour. I hadn't realized how similar the Hooded's
alternate song is to the Indigo's. The main difference, of course, is that
the Indigo's song goes down in pitch, while the Hooded's alternate song goes
up in pitch.

I heard a similar "duet" a week ago in one of my atlas blocks, between a
Hooded warbler singing his typical song and a Chestnut-sided warbler singing
his normal song. They too, took turns, singing back and forth and I realized
that the songs sounded somewhat similar, at least in pitch.
