A wondermous surprise today as I coaxed the short legged canine unit through the drifts of snow at Grant Park in South Milwaukee. Overhead, at treetop level, flew a mature bald eagle. It circled a couple of minutes for great views. Even the dog noticed it! This was a bit inland on the golf course and near the maintenance building, and not out over the lake or bluff where I might have expected it. Anyway, it's a first eagle over Grant for me.. It disappeared to the north. I have wondered when and if we might see nesting take place this far south in the county given the success of the Mequon eagles not too far north of here. I worry a bit because of the July 4 fireworks that are set off but a football field's length from the area where it was seen today. But as Alfred E Newman is wont to say, What, me worry?
