The ice stretched out almost 50 meters from shore but soon after that were several hundred Greater Scaup and Common Goldeneyes. Jym Mooney and others reported several species of gulls at the harbor entrance, so we headed off to the red lighthouse east of the Marcus Amphitheater. We needed scopes to see the Bald Eagle and Greater Black-backed Gulls on the breakwater about 250 meters away, but no optics were needed to see the red-eye on the Horned Grebe right next to the shoreline. Jym introduced us to the Bruce Street boat launch west of the inner harbor, a great place to scope gulls in the afternoon when there are ice floes. At least two loafing Thayer's Gulls and one immature Iceland Gull were fairly easy to pick out ... once Jym found them ;-) See my lists below which might be incomplete.
