I had a problem with similar symptoms a few weeks back.  Color was OK but no
b&w.  Somehow, it turned out, an option got changed to use color only.  It
was hidden deeply in the printer properties.

I have retried rebooting my PC, and uninstalling and reinstalling the
printer.  Neither helped.  I don't know how to go about updating the
drivers.
