What the heck is the LineIn plugin?

Hi folks,
I am about to ask a really dumb question, but the curiosity is getting to
me. LOL! What, exactly, is the "Line In" plugin in Winamp's Input plugins
list for?What is it supposed to play or do, and how is it used?
