June 14 Board Meeting Dear PTA Parents, The California State PTA believes visual and performing arts should be a basic and integral part of a balanced curriculum for all students. The proposal is Agenda Item H-7, "Restoration of Certain Certificated and Classified Positions." If the proposal is approved, the elementary instrumental music teachers will continue to reach over 12,000 students in all of the elementary schools. The middle and high school music teachers with lay-off notices will also be restored. The Board meeting starts at 2:00 pm Tuesday, (4100 Normal Street) with a long list of items preceding H-7. It's hard to know when H-7 will be discussed. This is the only core curriculum area at risk! Board V.P. Dr. John Lee Evans is our best hope for a third vote. Please write to him now: <mailto:johnleeevans@xxxxxxxxx> johnleeevans@xxxxxxxxxx He needs to hear from you before the vote on Tuesday. Of course it's always good to send a message to all five Board members at <mailto:board@xxxxxxxxx> board@xxxxxxxxx or to their individual addresses (see below). SPEAKERS: Sign up online, call (619)725-5550 or fill out a form when you arrive. Speakers will probably have one minute. We really need a crowd supporting the restoration of VAPA. Other groups will be there pleading for support. Please come to the Board meeting as early as you can. The auditorium has been overflowing at recent Board meetings. I will have SAVE MUSIC stickers and SAVE VAPA signs to hold inside the auditorium. Thank you for your important role in ensuring our young people have access to a complete education which must include music and the other arts. Please call me if you have any questions or problems signing up to speak.
