In case you haven't heard J What this means for Whitman is that instrumental program can continue next school year. Celeste L Bobryk-Ozaki Whitman PTA President From: Laura Schumacher [mailto:lauras@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, June 22, 2011 9:40 AM To: Laura Schumacher Subject: PTA Counil: Board of Education restores VAPA A Message from Ann Marie Haney, Community Council for Music in our Schools Dear School Music Supporters, A giant celebration is in order: At Tuesday's board meeting the Board of Education voted 5-0 to totally reinstate VAPA! Shelia Jackson made the motion before Richard Barrera, Kevin Beiser or Scott Barnett could present their proposals. Scott amended the proposal by dedicating $200,000 for music positions at Crown Point Music Academy and Oak Park Music Academy for a grand total of $1.5M. (VAPA had already been partially restored, so the board approved the funds that were needed to bring back the department to this year's level.) This fabulous outcome is a testament to the outstanding work of our music teachers and the wonderful support from parents and community members. Your testimonies at board meetings, e-mail and personal letters made it possible for the board members to make the difficult budgetary decision to restore music and the other arts to their rightful place in the curriculum. It's a real privilege for me to share your love of music. Thank you for all of your efforts. Ann Marie Haney
