Lincoln High School Youth Health Council and UCSD present

Community Wellness Program Kick-off

 

     An Olympic Gold medalist, a neuroscientist and a Yale University child
psychiatrist are a few of the speakers promoting healthy lifestyles at the
Lincoln High School Health Council Community Wellness Series. With the help
of UCSD, the Health Council has put together a four-part series that is free
and open to the public. All presentations are in the Lincoln High School
Theatre, 4777 Imperial Avenue, and begin at 6:00 pm. There will be community
resource tables and refreshments in the central quad on June 23 and October
20.  

 

Thursday, June 23 - Feeding the Mind, Body and Spirit

Monique Henderson, Olympic Gold Medalist and Adam Henderson, Lincoln High
School Director of Track and Field and will discuss the link between
physical health and academic success. Mike Carey, NFL Official, will
illustrate how making healthy choices leads to a successful and rewarding
life. 

 

Thursday, July 28 - Music and The Mind

Dr. Makeba Jones will facilitate the discussion by Dr. Patel, The
Neurosciences Institute, and Sundiata Kata, San Diego Youth Symphony. The
physiological and psychological benefits of music on mental health and
cognitive development will be discussed following the performances by San
Diego Youth Symphony & Conservatory's Opus Orchestra, Oak Park African
Drummers, and International Youth Symphony.

 

Thursday, September 1 - Managing Stress for Academic Success

Chris Yanov founder of Reality Changers will lead a discussion on the
effects of stress on the cognitive, social, emotional and physical
development of children and adolescents following a screening of "Race to
Nowhere". Ben Carson, MD, John Hopkins University, will speak via video
regarding his experiences, challenges and his success as a student and
surgeon.

 

Thursday, October 20 - Building Healthy Communities

James P. Comer MD, child psychiatrist at Yale University, will provide a
presentation promoting collaboration among parents, educators and the
community to improve social, emotional and academic outcomes for students.
