Part of the push for HTML e-mail in my company comes from advertiser
preferences.

Now whether that preference is supported by results/click-thrus I don't
know, and that's not the business we're in...

Hahhh.

Morry now you are getting somewhere - what EXACTLY do you mean by
successful?

Do you mean people clicking through on the links in the email?

Do you mean people actually buying a product?

Perhaps people responding to a message?

I'd suggest that to convey the message /successfully/ work on the content
- forget the message format until the message itself is optimised.

Another thing: perhaps those more successful HTML messages are like that
because a large company can afford a large (or small) marketing company to
make the /message/ more attractive (i.e. not the format of the message!)

Food for thought
