Reading your post again, I have to ask what you mean by "assign" ? If you open
an 8 channel device f.i. you are free to route whatever audio you want to whatever
channel you want ?
The only thing different with respect to ASIO is that the ASIO API allows you
to open the ASIO device with 2 logical channels routed to f.i. physical
channels 3 and 7, whereas on Portaudio/WDMKS you'll have to do that routing
yourself, but that is trivial.
