This school year is off to a crazy start! I'm excited to have a chance to finally answer Shelley's question about DVDs with Descriptive Audio. If you're looking to see a movie with audio description at a theatre, my favorite site to find them is www.ncam.wgbh.org/mopix. It lists all the movies now playing in the U.S. that have either closed captioning, audio description, or both. They also have a 'View Theatres' link that will help you find theatres in your area that are mopix equipped. You can follow the links to your local theatre websites and the movies are generally labeled with a CC for closed captioning or a DA for descriptive audio. The theatre closest to me used to have CC or DA (if it was available) right next to each movie on the website. Now they have a "MOPIX" link that shows which moves have these added features along with the showtimes. The website www.captionfish.com is also pretty cool. It uses your location and then shows only the theatres that are close to you, Under each theatre is a list of movies and showtimes and they are all marked either 'RW' (rear window captioning) or 'DV' (descriptive video). If you want to borrow DVDs: www.acb.org/adp/dvds.html is a helpful site. They show which movies are available with audio description and they're listed by the year they came out. There are also instructions on how to access the descriptive audio track on a DVD and locations where you can borrow described DVDs listed by state. The National Lilbrary Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped has a very large selection of descriptive videos. They sent me large print and braille catalogs of the videos when I asked them. Of course this service is free, and they do not have first run movies. If you want to buy descriptive videos, I'm told the best places are: RNIB in the U.K.: onlineshop.rnib.uk/browse Audiovision out of Canada: audiovisioncanada.com Sadly, I do not know of any local stores where you can just go out and buy one. Perhaps someone else on these lists has some leads? Hope this helps! Rikilynn Layher --- On Fri, 9/28/12, Shelley L. Rhodes <guidinggolden@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Shelley L.
