Yes, I am using AVG and the problem has been rectified.

  Maureen,

I doubt very much that it is something in K1000 itself. Maybe something in
its add-ins or extras; however, nobody else on the k1000 list has reported
this. . Are you using AVG? If it were Norton antivirus, there could have
been something - like turning off the office plug-in in the Miscellaneous
  Options of that program.

Ronan, I have gone on to JAWS 8.00, I hadn't got the problem with 7.00 and
Michael Lavin is experiencing a similar problem with JAWS 6.2, so I don't
think it is a JAWS problem. I now know it to be a "word" problem triggered
possibly by my new version of Kurtzweil. Updating my Office package has
rectified it and I might add that the update goes back to sometime in 2000.

  Maureen.

    Hi Maureen,

I am on JAws 7.0 . I find the problem is intermittent. It goes away
sometimes and so it will be hard to be sure it is gone for good!
What is the exact version of JAWS that you are on at the moment?

Hi there Flor and all whom are interested, I had reason to contact Sight

wouldn't let me in to register(strange as it may seem). This was due to the
system restore, so they tell me. I explained the whys and fors of all this
and the technical person suggested unloading Kurtzweil again and downloading
an update service pack for Office 2000. As there was no service pack for
the version of Office I have (SR 1 small business) I did find an update to
SR 1A and downloaded this. I have now put back on Kurtzweil11 and have
registered and the problem seems to have gone, at least for the moment. So
maybe Ronan and Michael, an update might just do the trick for you - try it
  anyway.

      Maureen. - Happy again!

        Hi maureen,

To test that hypotheses, then, uninstall K1000. I don't think the
  problem
will be solved if you do that, however. My suspicion is that it may
  have to
do with some setting in Windows XP Pro: that it could be due to the
installation of anythinng now, rather than Kurzweil 1000 per se.
  System
Restore again, I suppose: and help from paul etc.

Bad news Flor, after doing system restore the word problem was
  rectified but
I then discovered to-day that my new Kurtzweil 11, du to system
  restore, had
gone out of kilter so after re-installing Kurtzweil the selection
  problem
manifest again. Obviously Kurtzweil is causing it somehow.

System Restore will work, provided that, if you installed anything
  since
        the
last time you did it, you uninstall that item until after you've
  done the
          System Restore.

Michael and Ronan! I have managed to rectify my problem by doing a
  system
restore. Hope it stays that way now!

            Hi VICS List Members

Like Maureen & Ronan, I too have been experiencing problems with
  JAWS
version 6 when trying to select a word using Shift+Cntrl+right
  arrow. I
          find
I am only selecting the initial letter of the word. This doesn't
  happen
          with
the applications Wordpad or Notepad. I have tried requesting
  assistance
          from
JAWS support but gave up in disgust.

FS seem only interested in getting out new updates of JAWS so as
  to use
        up
the maintenance agreements that users are paying for.

            Michael

            Hi Maureen,

I am experiencing the same problem in Word 2003 with JAWS 7.0

It seems to be intermittent. It sometimes goes away if I stop and
  start
JAWS. I am not sure what is causing it. If I get to the bottom of
  it I
          will
            let the list know!
