Hi Maureen, I am experiencing the same problem in Word 2003 with JAWS 7.0It seems to be intermittent. It sometimes goes away if I stop and start JAWS. I am not sure what is causing it. If I get to the bottom of it I will let the list know!

Maureen,it's time for you to call for the old standby, sighted assistant, to tell you what's on the screen when you try to select a word or words in Ms Word.Perhaps the mouse is coming a cropper somewhere? Perhaps JAWS ismisrepresenting things or getting in the way? (there may be other things going on, whose symptoms have not manifested themselves to you yet. In themeantime, let us know if the problem is mysteriously solved!)(You could, for experiment, unload JAWS, select a few words - say four or five shift-ctrl-right-arrow presses - then cut to clipboard, hit enter a fewtimes, paste, then reload JAWS; see if JAWS reads anything pasted.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen Newelll" <mcnewell@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 9:41 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Word selection prob Flor, I had checked this option and checkbox is checked. However, Iunchecked it and rechecked it again but no joy - a bit of a mistery, don'tyou think? ----- Original Message ----- From: Flor Lynch To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 7:34 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Word selection prob maureen,In Microsoft Word, when you get to Tools Option, ctrl+tab to the Edit tab control. Now, tab into this diallogue and look at the various options.About ten tab presses in, there's "automatically select entire word"(checkbox checked), or should be checked. When I unchecked it, it did notstop my ability to select words, however. Also, note: you can access the "What's this?" Help for each option, by activating shift+F1, to learn more about what it does. (This particular doesn't work in later office versions.) When you have read this help and press escape, you're returned to the OK button; so you need to tab orback-tab to where you were if you want to pursue those tabs. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen Newelll" <mcnewell@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 5:43 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Word selection prob Flor, I did nothing out of the ordinary that I know. I did put a favoritesshortcut on desktop. All features you asked about seem o.k. although itisdifficult to know with the underline and emboldent features, not beingable to highlight the word. If I put on the underline or emboldent at beginningof word and arrow down to end of that word it works alright. Otherwise, F8and ctrl and down arrow are both working.Sleep on it, you might get inspiration during the night! Come on all youteckys, give Flor a dig out on this one! So there's nothing 'fatally wrong'. Did you re-assign any keys recently? use any fomplex Excel functionalities? Can you press ctrl+eandget Centred text; ctrl+l and get left Aligned, Ctrl+b for Bold, ctrl+uforUnderlined, etc.? And if (In Microsoft word, of course here) you press ctrlk-down-arrow, does JAWS read by paragraph. Does something happen(for example) if you press the control plus shift keys a few times insuccesssion? You see there are still a number of possibilities... so to narrow it all down you will have to *keep* your own hat on!, if you wantto solve this problem! (By default, the 'keyboard switching' key is alt-shift(or at least it is on my keyboard. You might have changed that to control-shift accidentally perhaps.) Did you? Is mouse selection of awordworking properly? Do you know that the F8 key is also a selection key,and does that work with ctrl, and ctrl and shift? You could look in Tools Options - alt+t o. In the General Tab control, besure that both checkboxes for WordPerfect users are unchecked. Nextthere'sthe Edit tab to look into, though nothing there in particular springsout atme from your description of the problem so far. I should add that I'musing office 2002, next up from 2000. Perhaps somebody else has the Quicksilver? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen Newelll" <mcnewell@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 3:16 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Word selection prob Hi Flor, yes, the control key works when selecting a word in both notepad and wordpad.
