Hi Paul,
Below is a copy of a tutorial that Paul T. wrote for the VIP student
list which might be useful.
"I took a little time recently to explore one of the more popular social
networking web sites called Facebook. I thought for anyone interested it
might be a good idea to write up something on how to sign up for the
site so here it is.

What is a Social Networking web site?

A social network service focuses on building online communities of
people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in
exploring the interests and activities of others.

Facebook is a social networking website launched on February 4, 2004.
The free-access website is privately owned and operated by Facebook,
Inc. ... It is a social networking service for high school, college,
university, corporate, non-profit, military and geographic communities.

How to set up a profile in Facebook.

1. Go to the site: www.facebook.com

2. The home page itself is pretty user friendly and about a third of the
way down you will be asked to fill in your details if you are not
already registered. The following will be required: *. Email address. *.
New password. I am combo box sex clickable. Here arrow up or down to
choose male or female. *. Birthday, Month combo box. *. Birthday Day
combo box *. Birthday Year combo box.

3. When you have the above information filled in, and if you are a jaws
user, first come out of forms mode by using the "numpad Plus key on your
keyboard. Then arrow down three times till you come to a sign in button.

Note: Why we do it as I mention above is that for some reason if you
press tab key after inserting the year of your Birth Jaws will not see
the sign in button and you will be placed on a different link.

4. Also while signing up to Facebook you will be asked to solve a
captia. This is a little graphic image of text or numbers of some sort.
It could in some cases be a picture. To do this you will need sighted
help or if you are a firefox user then go to the website:
www.webvisum.com and sign up for the firefox plugin. This plugin can
help with the screens that require you to fill in captions. I will write
about this another time.

6. Once the caption has been filled in again arrow down to the "sign in
button" as tabbing will jump over it and you will miss it. Hit enter on
the button and you will move into the next page which will inform you
that a confirmation email has been sent to the email address you used in
the signing up process.

7. Once you have opened up the confirmation email and clicked on the
link provided in it you will be ready to start setting up Facebook.

Here are the 4 steps you will have to go through in order to set
yourself

up:

Step 1

Confirm Friends

Step 2

Find Friends

Step 3

Profile Information

Step 4

Join a Network

Step 1. What happens here is that if already someone in the past has
requested you to be their friend on Facebook those names will be down
near the bottom of the page and if you still wish to make that contact
with them then you can click on the accept button just beneath their
name. Also if you wish not to get involved you can also click on the
ignore link.

Step 2. Once this part is finished you will move on to the next part
which is where you are prompted to enter your email and password in
order to make new friends. Again this step is near the bottom of the
page, about two thirds of the way down and is up to you if you wish to
do this or you can skip this step if you want.

Step 3. Profile information is where you fill in some details about
yourself and anything else you feel relevant.

Step 4. Join a network, you can now choose which country you would like
to join up too. I just left it at the default for me which was Ireland.

9. When you have each of the above sections completed, just click on the
next button at the bottom of each section to move on. Once all the above
steps have been completed, you will now be placed onto the completed
page with your own inbox, edit box to make a comment and share with
others and if you have any friends added to your profile they will also
be present on your page.

I hope you find this tutorial just enough to get you up and running with
Facebook and that you enjoy it".
