No, they are up firing, along the top edge of the tablet in landscape mode
with the charging port on the right edge. Really not bad at all. At least
they are facing to the rear of the tablet.

Are the speakers on the HD eight front facing? I didn't think so, but I'm
not sure.

Hi Mary. It was strictly audio as I prefer stereo over mono and at
least to my ears, it does sound noticeably better. It's a fuller sound
and due to the fact that I decided to go for a refurbished unit, the
hd8 was only 20 bucks or so more expensive than the 7.

Hi Rick,
I am curious why you got the HD eight instead of the less expensive fire.
Does it sound that much better? I assume that the purchase must have
to do with superior audio. But maybe there something else I'm missing.

Hello. Best wishes for 2017 to all.
Does anyone out there have a link to step by step directions on how
to install Google Play onto a Fire hd8 tablet? I'd like to have the
flexibility of being able to use either store if possible. I don't
mind having to side load if that is what it takes but not sure if
there is more than that involved to get it working. I guess I'd also
have to find the Google Play .apk file somewhere. Any tips much
appreciated.
