I usually go get the mail by myself in the late afternoon. Lately Thane
shows his desire to go too, but does not always get to go. By this time of
day I am usually beyond the energy or patience to work with him. Today when
I told him I was going to go get the mail, he lined up beside me awaiting
his leash... too funny.
I chose to take him with me despite the amount of training we did this
morning. When we got to the end of the sidewalk to turn to the mailboxes, he
turned his head towards me and then did not proceed. I was using my guide
cane but something told me to listen to Thane. He is very good about car
alerts and intelligent disobedience in reference to them, but he also likes
to stop when people are around. The latter though is happening less so I
listened to him. Sure enough someone had been in their vehicle collecting
the mail. I hate how that is designed because you have to wait on the
vehicle all the way back at the sidewalk or you can run into trouble. Being
deafblind I have run into vehicles I did not know were there since Met's
death, where the people actually got upset that I got in the way of their
car. Needless to say I was very proud of my lil man today. I may just think
twice about going to the mail without him now even if I am using my guide
cane.
Awesome my lil' man!
