If horses can scent a person could scent training retrieve work? A good
friend of mine wrote an article that was in the IAADP Partners Forum, its
not on their website as those are older editions.
The concept was to train a scent using some sort of scent pouch you can
attach to item. Don't use scents that she would regularly smell in cooking
and general life but ones specifically chosen. First teach the scent so she
has it down pat, then you attach the scent to the item such as a phone for
instance. What my friend learned with her service dog is that the accuracy
of the retrieve was far better than without the scents. Obviously you don't
want to use scents you will get sick of and you may have to replenish at
times depending on the scent of choice, but it is an amazing concept.
