Mona and Dolores, I'm really enjoying your blog. It's so great to see other guide animals being trained strictly using the clicker from day one. Laveau, my lab Doberman mix is my first dog to be trained with the clicker from the ground up. Mill'E, my six-year-old golden is my "crossover dog." I've been working with Laveau for three months now and have really enjoyed our training. It is so much less stressful and doesn't carry as much negative emotional baggage for both of us, than training the old way. Laveau is a relaxed, eager, confident guide. If she makes a mistake, she views it as something to learn from not a big bad thing. We have begun working on her retrieve. Laveau is from a shelter and we don't know much about her "past life." She is very hesitant about putting objects other than *toys* in her mouth so I think this is going to go slowly, but I think eventually we'll get there. Congratulations to you both and I wish you nothing but the best in the training ahead.
