Hi all,

Melinda and Smokey, My Mellow Fellow here,

I think everyone here has made some very good points. As for guide dog
handlers, we are taught to let our dogs go if we are ever in a situation
where a fight will happen so they can run away or defend themselves. I've
had to do it once, and it wasn't an easy thing to do at all. But if I
hadn't April could have been hurt. In our case, the dog who attacked her
was a dog we passed everyday during our walk. On the fateful day, we had
already passed the house, and I never heard the dog, and April never looked
at it, so when it attacked, we were both taken by surprise. If no one here
has ever heard an all out dog fight, I hope you never have to! I was
absolutely terrified, and the dog's owner stood there yelling for her dog
to come, and cursing at it when it wouldn't! How stupid! I still remember
it like it was yesterday, and while April got over her fear in time, I
don't think I've ever really recovered completely, although I try not to
get too freaked out when a dog is around Smokey and me.

Take care, and be safe out there!

Your friends always,

Melinda and Smokey My Mellow Fellow and April, now our angel dog.
