Hi Steve and Lars,
I figured out the trick in entering my code on the log in screen. My
visually impaired daughter explained to me that the screen in Android
10 had square like places for the numbers whereas in Android 11 the
numbers are in bubbles. So I have to make sure my finger is right on
the bubble for a particular number.

That default is gone now. The default is to always speak passwords. I know
this because I have done several resets. This is true on Android 10 or 11.

Regarding your first question: In TalkBack you can decide to hear password
when typing. It's default value is set to speak when you have headphones on,
but tha t can be changed, so that you hear the keypad also whan you don't
use headphones.
