All,

I'll agree not to use banding codes on the listserve again if you agree not to
post anything else on cormorants on interior lakes. That's not worth anybody's
time in my opinion. They are basically trash birds now. By the way it's never
AMROB. Look up what banding codes are. They are always 4 letters. Forget the
Spanish connection too. It doesn't apply here.

Yes, but then it needs to be spread out when reporting to others. Write down
AMROB on your on-site birding list, but write "American Robin, 11" on a report
to us. (That "B" is my code - hexadecimal for "11"). And that code for the
Canada Goose needs to be changed, maybe to CNGS. Otherwise,
Spanish/English-speaking birders are going to laugh every time they see CAGO.
Unless you want to make a comment about these birds. Yes, they do mess up parks
and other land.

I think you guys need to take the course on how to do bird surveys. These are
standard banding codes. Look up banding codes - Google it - and you will see
that it's the coming way to abbreviate birds seen or heard. When surveying one
does not have time to write down complete bird names.

I agree. I would rather hear about robins than about AMROs. Besides, CAGO means
"I poop" in Spanish.

ALL

I certainly understand the desire to use the abbreviations for our birds,
especially when they are fairly obvious DCCO, but I have to tell you I think
this is a good way to turn people off.

that's a good place to see EABL and CHSP - on an asphalt path from one of the
lakes to the parking lot. Other than that there were some TUTI and a few RBWP
and DOWP.
