Hello birders,
Today I scouted two ponds looking ahead to this weekend's Christmas Bird
Counts. The one slightly unusual species I found was a pair of Wilson's Snipes
at the pond on Middlesex Drive and Pleasant Valley Road, aka the "Blue Springs"
pond. (That's Loudoun's Pleasant Valley Road, not Fairfax's.)
They don't show up much in this particular area (SE Loudoun, Western Fairfax).
The other pond with a nice variety of common species was the one on the N side
of Braddock Road along Elklick Run, at the SE-most corner of the South Riding
Golf Course. Both of these lie inside the count circle for Manassas-Bull Run
CBC, this Sunday the 17th.
