I'm interested in purchasing Bird Song Identification CD's. Which one's do
you recommend for a beginning birder. Seems I have heard that Peterson's and
Stokes both are good. Also, if you have one, where did you get it?
I have both CD's (purchased at local Wild Bird Unlimited) I've use the Stokes
more recently because you can go directly to a single bird's song rather than a
"class" of birds. Petersons groups similar birds together and, for example, you
have to listen to all the wrens and kinglets before getting to the
gnatcatchers.
It seems to me I had a tape early on that not only had birds group together but
actually had someone talking about the quality of the songs and hints about
what to listen for. Unfortunately, I can't remember who made it. Most of my
tapes are packed away somewhere, but if no one else remembers this and the
name, I'll try to find it.
